about
I wrote this RIff on the bass in 1995 while I was living in Mammoth. The lyrics were written around 2000. I played this song with a couple of my bands, and produced an electronic version of it, which I was never happy with.
I was recording Dylan Howard on another project in 2014 at The Omen Room and when I heard and felt him play I knew immediately that he would drive this song the right way.. >>
Total Access was struggling to keep its doors open and sub leased the legendary drum room out and is now a control room for my friend and colleague Kamal "Radioinactive" and his SSL G Series.
I scheduled the studio just hours prior to demolition, and construction began the next day.
After recording drums I then brought it home where I finished tracking the vocals, mixed and mastered it.
I sent it to John Gill and He fired back the artwork.
It has taken a lot for me to let go of this and be ok with it as is, although I am very pleased with the production it is bitter sweet as it is the last recording I made at Total Access in the legendary Drum Room. The drum room has an unmistakeable ambience that you can hear in several of your favorite songs and hits, i'm glad I was able to preserve it in one my personal recordings
DYLAN IS A BEAST ON THE DRUMS, this song only displays a sliver of his talent.. I sent Dylan the song and he came in a few days later, we set up and we were done in 3 takes.
Is it ironic the titled song is "Janitor"
I cleaned the entire drum room out that day and it was a bitter sweet ending to a legendary drum room.
Thanks for helping me tell this story Dylan Howard.
Thanks for the artwork John Gill
lyrics
It’s not alright, it’s not okay
The things I’ve seen would make you go insane
I’ll hand you the keys to unlock that door
but don’t ever look back, cuz you’ll never move forward
Don’t stand and argue with Father Time
He’ll grind your gears and twist your mind
We are the Janitors
Custodians of Mother Earth
We are the Janitors
We’re cleaning it up when you leave
Leaving it up to you it’ll never get done
It’s all of our fault, it's all of our fight
It doesn’t matter who wins,
who’s wrong, or who’s right !!
It’s not our call you took the job
you went and dropped the biggest ball
right into the middle of the universe
soon you’ll find why humans are this planets curse
We are the Janitors
Custodians of Mother Earth
We are the Janitors
We’re cleaning it up, when you leave
We are the Janitors
Custodians of Mother Earth
